Channel 14 reporter Tamir Morag reported the core details today (Monday) of an emerging hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, with some issues still remaining unresolved.
According to Morag, the deal will include a ceasefire of about a month and a half and the gradual release of a few dozen live hostages, though the precise number is still a matter of serious dispute.
The deal also includes the release of many hundreds of terrorists, including murderers. Where they will go - either to Judea and Samaria or Gaza as Hamas demands or to a third country as Israel demands - remains in dispute.
4. Diluting - but not removing - the Israeli presence along the Philadelphi axis, a significant concession by Hamas which previously demanded a full withdrawal.
5. A gradual return of Hazans to the northern Strip in significant numbers. Hamas concedes that the Netzarim corridor will remain for now and that those returning to the north will be checked by the IDF first, in order to prevent Hamas reestablishing itself there.
Israel will also maintain a presence along the perimeter and in the Netzarim corridor during the ceasefire - a Hamas concession of their demand that the IDF fully withdraw at once.
Israel also does not commit to ending the war. It is unclear what the formula is, but Israel said that they would renew the fighting once the ceasefire ended.
According to Morag, Israel is optimistic that this deal can be secured before President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated on January 20.
