The Israel Defense Forces is bracing for winter warfare, rolling out thousands of heated shelters and nearly a million pieces of cold-weather gear across active combat zones, military officials announced Monday.
The massive winterization effort includes the deployment of 1,900 mobile structures - essentially portable barracks equipped with heating, air conditioning, and electrical systems - designed to give soldiers respite from harsh weather conditions while maintaining combat readiness.
Among the 885,000 winter items distributed:
- 77,000 military-grade sleeping bags
- 9,000 heavy-duty winter jackets
- Specialized snow gear
- Cold weather combat uniforms
The Northern Command, facing increased operational activity, has received special attention with custom-built temporary structures and reinforced maintenance capabilities, including recovery vehicles and specialized equipment for winter combat conditions.
"This ensures optimal conditions for our fighters," a military spokesperson said, noting that each shelter complex includes heated showers and climate control systems. The army is also delivering hot meals daily to front-line units, supplemented by specialized winter combat rations and cooking equipment.
