On Monday morning, an Israeli Navy missile boat successfully intercepted a UAV launched from Yemen over the Mediterranean Sea, according to the IDF.
The interception occurred before the UAV crossed into Israeli territory, marking another escalation in the ongoing aerial threats from the Houthi-controlled region of Yemen.
The IDF revealed that since early November, the Houthis have launched five ballistic missiles and five UAVs targeting Israel.
Last week, a UAV launched from Yemen detonated on the roof of an apartment building in Yavne, a city in southern Israel. While no injuries were reported, the explosion caused significant damage. An investigation revealed that the UAV had flown over Sderot and Ashdod before striking Yavne and was only intermittently tracked by Israel’s air defense systems.
Despite technological measures and the scrambling of fighter jets, the UAV’s location was lost for a 14-minute window before the attack. The IDF admitted to gaps in identifying and monitoring the aircraft’s flight path, raising concerns about defense capabilities against such threats.
