Witnesses reported that the attackers intentionally targeted individuals they believed to be Jewish or Israeli, demanding they identify themselves, and physically assaulting them. Amsterdam's mayor, Femke Halsema, described the attacks as a "toxic mix" of antisemitism and hooligan violence, according to Ynet reports.
The victims, all of whom suffered physical injuries or emotional distress, have joined a lawsuit led by the Lawfare Project, a U.S.-based organization fighting for the civil and human rights of Jewish and pro-Israel communities globally. The legal action is being spearheaded by Dutch lawyer Peter Plasman, a partner at Koster, Lehouck, Plasman & Partners.
Brooke Goldstein, attorney and director of The Lawfare Project, emphasized, "This brutal attack on Jews in Amsterdam is just one more example of the alarming rise in antisemitism across Europe. Since October 7, 2023, Jews worldwide have faced increasing violence, harassment, and discrimination. We urge European governments to act swiftly to protect their Jewish communities and hold those responsible for these attacks accountable."
Ziporah Reich, Director of Litigation for The Lawfare Project, added, “We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for these heinous acts are held accountable. Through this legal action, we aim to send a strong message: antisemitic violence will not be tolerated, and perpetrators will face the full force of the law. These attacks are part of a troubling global rise in hatred against Jews, and justice for the victims is just one step toward combating this dangerous trend."
The Lawfare Project is calling on other victims and witnesses to come forward and join the lawsuit before it is formally filed. Those seeking to participate or obtain further information can contact the legal team at: amsterdamlegalaction@thelawfareproject.org.
