Report: IDF preparing for the collapse of the Palestinian Authority

With the fall of Assad and the increased activity of radical Jihadi organizations, the IDF is increasingly concerned about the stability of the Palestinian Authority and with it - security in Judea and Samaria.

The Israeli government and its security forces are increasingly concerned that the Palestinian Authority might collapse in Judea and Samaria, leading to terrorist takeovers of cities, armed attacks on Jews in the area, or even PA security forces turning their guns on the Authority itself, according to a report today (Sunday) by Israel Hayom.

Officials in the defense establishment believe the situation is highly delicate and fragile, even calling the state of the Palestinian Authority as being at a "singularity" where it might actually fall apart. This can be seen by the PA's major operation in Jenin meant to clamp down on terrorist forces.

The cause of many of these fears is the rapid fall of Bashar Assad's Syria to jihadist forces and the subsequent major increase in pro-Hamas and pro-Iran messaging on social media. Israel has also expressed fears that the jihadi wave might reach and destabilize Jordan, just next door to Syria.

The IDF said that it has plans in place in case the Palestinian Authority does indeed collapse and the cabinet is set to meet today to discuss how to prevent this from occuring.
