I will be your worst nightmare

Hostage mother Einav Zangauker slams Benjamin Netanyahu

There are a lot of people in Israel who believe that the government should bring the hostages back, at any cost. And although there are also many who feel the exact opposite, no one can deny the sheer agony that the hostage families have experienced for the last year.

In an emotionally charged speech at Tel Aviv's Hostages Square, Einav Zangauker, whose son Matan remains captive in Gaza, accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deceiving families about hostage negotiations.

"I know from sources involved in the negotiations that you do not intend to reach a comprehensive deal," Zangauker declared during Saturday night's demonstration. "You plan to bring back a few and leave the rest to die under military pressure."

The distraught mother issued a stark warning to the Prime Minister: "I will personally pursue you if my Matan comes back in a body bag. I will be your worst nightmare." She also criticized Netanyahu's relationship with far-right coalition members Ben Gvir and Smotrich, claiming they "have turned you into a rag."

Earlier that day, outside the military headquarters in Tel Aviv, Zangauker condemned what she described as political interference in the hostage negotiations. She specifically pointed to pressure from coalition members advocating for Gaza settlements and opposing an end to the war.

"My Matan is alive! Edan Alexander is alive!" she emphasized. "A partial deal will seal their death sentence!" Zangauker urged Netanyahu to resist "the extortion of extremists" in his government and pursue a comprehensive agreement to secure all hostages' release.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum expressed growing concern about the captives' survival chances as winter approaches. In a statement, the organization warned that deteriorating conditions in Gaza threaten the lives of surviving hostages, while evidence related to those killed might be permanently lost.

"All hostages fall under the category of requiring release on humanitarian grounds," the Forum stated, calling for a comprehensive agreement to return all captives – "the living for rehabilitation and the fallen for a dignified burial in their homeland."
