A protocol from the 'Hamas High Military Council,' found by IDF fighters during the war in the Gaza Strip, reveals an inspection attempt conducted by Hamas's leadership in preparation for the Simchat Torah massacre.
According to the findings that emerged and were published on Channel 12, it turns out that in May 2023, about six months before the surprise attack, Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif - both of whom have since been eliminated - simultaneously mobilized around two thousand Nukhba operatives to designated assembly points. Most of the points were in mosques, according to the reports by kikar.
The purpose of the exercise was to examine whether Hamas could carry out such an operation without it being detected. The exercise confirmed the hope of Hamas's leadership, given its success. Deif and Sinwar understood and assumed that the Israeli security system knew nothing about the exercise.
In the investigations conducted in Israel in recent months, the captured Nukhba operatives were asked among other things about this exercise, and some of them responded that they were present. Senior officials in the security system confirmed the details to Channel 12, and the IDF spokesperson chose not to comment.
