The investigation, led by IDF commanders, has concluded its inquiry into the incident in which Erlich and Kehati were killed. However, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi has decided to postpone finalizing the investigation, as reported by Kan News on Thursday.
This decision comes after Sergeant Kehati’s parents submitted letters to the Military Advocate General and the Chief of Staff, presenting claims of additional footage from soldiers and officers. The footage allegedly shows that there was no military purpose for the patrol at the ancient fortress where the incident occurred.
The Kehati family has requested that the commanders’ investigation be halted, fearing that it might interfere with the ongoing Military Police investigation into the case.
The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit commented on the matter, stating, "Following the incident, a Military Police investigation was initiated. Once it concludes, its findings will be submitted to the Military Advocate General and shared with the bereaved families. As the investigation is still ongoing, we cannot provide further details. The Military Advocate General’s response to the Kehati family confirms that the investigation has ended, and the findings are now being presented to senior officials."
