At a press conference he held today (Thursday), National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that he believes that Netanyahu is on board with a hostage deal that is being negotiated and that it can be completed "within a month," according to multiple reports.
Sullivan also said that he would not have come to Israel if he thought that the Prime Minister was waiting for the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump before closing a hostage deal with Hamas.
Multiple reports have come out claiming that Hamas has become more "flexible" on terms for a hostage deal. Whereas before, they insisted on complete IDF withdrawal and a clear guarantee of an end to the war before agreeing to anything, some sources say they are now willing to at least temporarily settle for less.
Thus far, no-one in Hamas has officially and publicly agreed to any sort of flexibility, and leaders both in the Gaza Strip and abroad have consistently demanded an end to the war and an IDF withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, regardless of military and civilian losses and the elimination of most of their leaders.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and the government have repeatedly and emphatically rejected any deal based on these demands, citing the importance of Israeli security and of preventing any future recurrence of events like October 7th.
