Singer and songwriter Corinne Allal z'l, winner of the ACUM Lifetime Achievement Award and the Landau Prize for Arts and Sciences, passed away this morning (Thursday) after a battle with cancer, at the age of 69.
Allal, one of the most prominent artists in Israeli music, has signed hits such as "I Have No Other Land", "Antarctica" and "A Little Land with a Mustache".
Allal was born on March 15, 1955 in Tunis, and immigrated to Israel at the age of 8 with her family, following the activities of her father, Hubert, as a Mossad agent. The family settled first in Netanya and then in Herzliya.
At the age of 12, Allal began playing the guitar, and during high school she participated in various bands and wrote songs. She began her military service in the Southern Command troupe, but after refusing to dance, she moved to the Combat Engineering Experience, where she met Yehudit Ravitz.
The meeting between them led to a musical collaboration, and together they participated in the project "Beautiful Tropical Land" and in Arik Einstein's album "The Good Old Land of Israel, Part III", in which they performed background vocals, especially in the song "Adorned with Your Forehead".
Throughout her career, Allal has collaborated with many artists, including Miki Gavrielov, with whom she performed in a joint show. Later, she turned to a solo career, writing and composing songs for herself and other artists.
The first song she wrote and composed in Hebrew was "I Go Crazy", in collaboration with Yehuda Eder. In 2022, Allal was awarded the Landau Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of her contribution to Israeli music. The award reads: "She managed to enter a very masculine arena and bring from there a unique voice and a musical message that inspired many generations of artists."
In recent months, Allal has been battling cancer, but has continued to appear. In February 2024, many artists celebrated 50 years of Allal's career with a special performance at the Auditorium of Culture in Tel Aviv, in recognition of her significant contribution to Israeli music.
