According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Hamas agreed for the first time to a deal that would allow a temporary IDF presence in Gaza after the ceasefire goes into effect.
As part of the talks, Hamas handed over to the mediators a list of hostages, including US citizens, whom it is willing to release as part of an agreement to stop the fighting and release the hostages.
The proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire, during which up to 30 hostages would be released in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners and the possibility of increasing the scope of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
According to the mediators, Hamas has expressed its willingness to accept the temporary presence of Israeli forces at strategic crossings in Gaza, including the Philadelphi corridor on the Egyptian border and the Netzarim corridor. In addition, Hamas agreed not to conduct activity on the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, a condition that had been the focus of a long-standing dispute in previous negotiations.
It was also reported that for the first time, Hamas provided a list that included the names of hostages, including women, the elderly, those with serious medical conditions and American citizens, along with information about the bodies of five hostages who were killed in captivity.
On the other hand, Hamas is demanding the release of Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israel as part of the deal.
