After Assad's Fall, Syrian Rebels Prioritize Internal Stability Over Israel War

Report: Syrian rebels avoid confrontation with Israel, focus on stabilization efforts

Rebel forces that played a key role in overthrowing Assad's regime are now focused on stabilizing Syria, rebuilding its institutions, and fostering reconciliation among the country's diverse sects. There has been criticism of the rebel leadership for not addressing the Israeli Defense Forces' (IDF) seizure of territory near the border following the regime's collapse.

One rebel-affiliated channel pointed out that after 14 years of civil war, the leadership is currently unwilling to open another front, prioritizing the strengthening of the internal situation.

A spokesperson for the rebels' public affairs department outlined new operational guidelines, emphasizing security and the restoration of public services. Notably, the Damascus Airport is set to resume operations in the coming days.

According to the spokesperson, Syria's new government will be based on the rule of law, with plans to review and amend the Constitution, and prioritize reconciliation efforts. He also emphasized that justice will be pursued through legal processes, and that the rebel forces will eventually be integrated into the Syrian army as armed groups dissolve under the new government. The rebel leadership anticipates that once stability is restored, international sanctions on Syria will be lifted.

In line with these efforts, the rebel leader met with the head of the southern operations room in Daraa to discuss the re-establishment of the Defense Ministry, which will include all armed factions.
