UNIFIL forces entered the city of Al-Khiam in southern Lebanon today, in accordance witht the ceasefire signed with Lebanon, for the first time since the IDF's ground maneuver there.

The UN troops were also accompanied by engineering vehicles and engineering corps forces whose purpose was to clear the roads blocked by the IDF and to neutralize unexploded ordnance and remnants of weapons left after the IDF cleared the area in recent weeks.

According to the cease-fire agreement, the IDF must evacuate its units from southern Lebanon within 60 days, and in the meantime it continues to clear the area of weapons and Hezbollah positions. After the arrival of UNIFIL, the Lebanese army is expected to seize the area, with Israel warning Lebanon that it will attack any attempt by Hezbollah to rehabilitate its capabilities in the region.
