Defense Minister Israel Katz visited the Haifa Navy base today (Tuesday), along with the Navy Commander, Admiral David Sa'ar Salama, and the base commander, Brigadier General Eli Socholitsky, a day after the destruction of the Syrian fleet by the Navy's missile ships. As part of the visit, Katz received operational briefings from the commanders on the extensive operational activities of the various flotillas, as well as details on the large-scale operation carried out by the Navy yesterday in destroying the Syrian fleet using missile ships.

"The IDF has been operating in Syria in recent days to target and destroy strategic capabilities that threaten the State of Israel," Katz said. "The Navy operated last night to destroy the Syrian fleet with great success." I warn the leaders of the rebels in Syria from here: whoever follows Assad's path will end up like Assad. We will not allow an extreme Islamic terrorist entity to operate against Israel beyond its borders and endanger its citizens; we will do whatever is necessary to eliminate the threat.

He also noted that "the IDF is currently completing its establishment in the buffer zone and controlling areas in order to protect the residents of the Golan Heights and the citizens of the State of Israel." I instructed, together with the Prime Minister, the IDF to establish a sterile defense zone free of weapons and terror threats in southern Syria, without a permanent Israeli presence, in order to prevent the establishment and organization of terrorism in Syria and the creation of a reality similar to what was in Lebanon and Gaza before 7.10."

"We will not allow this, we will not allow threats against the State of Israel, we will continue to act with full force to remove the threats," he concluded. "Again, I warn and emphasize – we will not allow anyone to threaten the residents of the Golan, the citizens of the State of Israel, and we will act firmly against any organization."
