A Biden administration official expressed support for the IDF’s recent operations in Syrian territory, describing them as "temporary and tactical measures" aimed at securing Israel’s borders.
Speaking to Kan News on Tuesday, the official emphasized Israel’s justification for the actions following the collapse of Syrian enforcement in the buffer zone after the Assad regime’s downfall.
“No nation can tolerate terror groups being right on their doorstep,” the official stated. “With the Syrian army abandoning its posts in the buffer zone, Israel declared the 1974 armistice agreement effectively void and took necessary steps to stabilize the area and prevent any incursion into its territory. We hope stability can be restored in the region soon.”
The report noted that Israel had updated the U.S. about its actions, which the administration did not oppose. Meanwhile, Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Mayadeen network reported that Israeli tanks are now positioned about 20 kilometers from Damascus.
Additionally, sources indicated the IDF has seized control of nine villages in southern Damascus near the Lebanese border, with reports of heavy airstrikes in the broader Damascus region.
