Members of "Uri Tsafon" (Awaken North), which works to encourage and establish Jewish settlement in southern Lebanon, held their first field activity, in which dozens of activists arrived last weekend near the Lebanese border in the area of the Shiite village of Maroun a-Ras, established an outpost and announced that its name was Mei Marom.
The members of the movement announced that they intended to establish a nucleus that would settle in a village where there was a Jewish presence in the past. Cedar trees were planted at the site in memory of the soldier Yehuda Dror Yahalom, who fell in battle in Lebanon two months ago. A few hours later, when the IDF force arrived at the scene, the "settlers" left the area.
Uri Tsafon announced that the arrival was a preparation for the establishment of a future settlement nucleus. "Maroun a-Ras was an ancient Hebrew settlement called 'Mei Marom.'
Yehuda fell in the battle of Ba'ita a-Sha'ab, a village where a priestly guard used to live," they said. They added: "With God's help, we will return to all the places where Jews once lived in Lebanon, because the country is very, very good."
