Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Syrian border together with Defense Minister Katz today (Sunday), where he commented on the fall of the Assad regime, calling it a "historic day" and commenting on Israel's policy for the day after.

The Prime Minister celebrated the fall of Assad, calling his regime a "central link in Iran's axis of evil" and saying that its fall was a "direct result of the blows we landed on Iran and on Hezbollah, the main supporters of the Assad regime," leading to a "chain reaction" in the Middle East of those who want to be freed of it.

Addressing Israel's current policy in a post-Assad world, Prime Minister Netanyahu said that he and the cabinet instructed the IDF to take over the buffer zone between Israel and Syria, as the government that adhered to that agreement no longer existed and Israel must see to its own defense.

Netanyahu also extended a "hand of peace" to the Druze near the border and then also to any Christians and Muslims - without specifying any specific rebel force or organization - who wish to live in peace with the State of Israel.
