Well, They Don't Have Much Choice

Is the IDF talking to anyone in Syria? Here's the surprising answer

Israel is reportedly in contact with some of the non-Assad forces as the Syrian Civil War escalates and the Syrian Regime's future becomes increasingly in doubt.

Following the reported attack on a UN outpost near the Israeli border with the Golan Heights today (Saturday), the IDF reportedly warned anti-Assad rebel forces to stay away from the area - pointing to a clear line of communication between the IDF and at least some Syrian forces, according to Kann reporter Itay Blumenthal.

Furthermore, according to Kann reporter Roi Kais, Israel has also opened a line of communication with Kurdish forces in the northeast of Syria, though the aim of this dialogue is unclear. One possible direction is the establishment of protected minority autonomous zones for the Kurds and Druze as the war drags on.

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, who broached the idea recently, also just stated on X that "Israel is not intervening in the internal conflict in Syria" and that Israel's main concern is the security of its northern border along the 1974 separation of forces line in the Golan Heights.
