Massad Boulos, President-elect Donald Trump's newly appointed adviser on Arab and Middle East Affairs, gave his thoughts on the ceasefire in the north during a wide ranging interview for the French Le Point, according to Kann reporter Roi Kais.

Boulos said that as opposed to the previous understanding, per which UN Resolution 1701 applies only to the demilitarization of the area south of the Litani River, the ceasefire agreement deals with the disarmament of all military or paramilitary groups throughout Lebanon.

This means, according to Boulos, that the Lebanese Army must ensure that it is the only body in the country bearing arms, along with other official government bodies, and that it is also responsible for making sure no arms smuggling takes place across the Syrian border, through the Beirut airport, or the Beirut seaport - all of which are the responsibility of the Lebanese Army.
