Dozens of Jews return to the once-evacuated Sa-Nur settlement

Two decades after its evacuation, the Jewish settlement of Sa-Nur has become a symbol of hope and security.

Dozens of Jews came last night(Saturday) to the Jewish community of Sa-Nur, which was evacuated 20 years ago in the Disengagement Plan. They held a melave malka and called for settlement there. This is the first time since the beginning of the war that Jews have arrived at the evacuated community.

Due to the security situation and the danger from the Arabs in the area, the residents arrived at night in a convoy of vehicles. They stated: "Only settlement will lead to security; it starts with walks and small sorties like we're doing tonight. Let us remember and not forget that we should not be here as thieves at night, but to live here. When we lived here, there was security for the entire State of Israel."

The residents added that since the expulsion in 2005, the Arabs have been throwing all their garbage in the community to degrade the place and erase any trace of the Jewish community that was there in the past. Meanwhile in the surrounding villages terror is bubbling up and the army has to come in and deal with them with large forces.

They emphasized that "the only thing that can restore security is to restore the settlement here; after the Simchat Torah massacre, it's clear to everyone."
