In Syria, it was reported last evening (Saturday) that rebel forces have recently arrived in the city of Hama, located about 200 kilometers from the capital Damascus. Earlier, the militias took control of the city of Aleppo, the second most important city in the country, in a surprise attack on a scale not seen in years.
According to the Arab networks, the Syrian army is collapsing and shocked by the surprise advance of the rebels, and its forces are fleeing the area.
Unverified reports on Syrian channels also claim that there is shooting in Damascus and that a coup d'etat in the near future is possible – in order to avoid a bloody war.
Hama has an estimated population of close to 1 million people and is located 46 kilometers north of Homs, another important center of the regime and the country's third-largest city. If the rebels also capture Homs, they will hold three of Syria's four most important cities.
