Staff Sergeant Zamir Burke fell in the northern Gaza Strip

Burke, 20, from Beit Shemesh, was a commander of the 601st Engineering Battalion. May his memory be a blessing.

Staff Sergeant Zamir Burke, commander of the 601st Engineering Battalion fell last Friday in the northern Gaza Strip, while valiantly defending the security of the State of Israel and its residents.

Zamir Burke, 20, was the 16th soldier from the city of Beit Shemesh to fall in the current war. He fell as a result of an anti-tank missile being fired at the D-9 in which he was traveling in Jabaliya.

Another soldier was seriously wounded in the incident. The operation in Jabalia has so far claimed the lives of 31 soldiers.

The Beit Shemesh Municipality released a statement saying that it "shares the family's deep grief, accompanies and embraces them in these difficult moments and will provide them with all the necessary support."

Beit Shemesh's Mayor Shmuel Greenberg stated: "Our hearts are with the family in these moments of pain. The whole of Beit Shemesh bows its head and embraces you. We will always remember Burke's heroism and his sacrifice for the defense of the people of Israel."
