An extremely volatile situation

Israeli security officials are closely monitoring a dramatic shift in Syria's civil war after rebel forces seized control of Aleppo, marking the most significant change in the conflict's dynamics in years.

The capture of Syria's former commercial hub has triggered serious security concerns in Tel Aviv, particularly regarding the fate of substantial weapons stockpiles in the region. Of primary concern is the Aleppo airport, which has served as a critical transit point for Iranian weapons shipments to Hezbollah.

"This creates an extremely volatile situation," a senior Israeli defense source told Israeli media outlet Walla News. "We're looking at weapons depots that could either fall into Hezbollah's hands or end up with former al-Qaeda affiliated rebels."

The rebel offensive has reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on Assad's forces and even eliminated several Russian special forces units in the area. As rebels continue to advance through the region, Israeli intelligence suggests this could significantly disrupt Iran's weapons pipeline through Syria.

The development represents a major setback for the Iran-Assad-Hezbollah axis, which has used Syrian territory as a conduit for arms shipments and militant activities targeting Israel. However, Israeli security experts warn that the power vacuum could create new security challenges along Israel's northern border.

The Israeli military continues to monitor the situation closely, particularly any movements around known weapons storage facilities in the Aleppo region.
