A strategic shift?

For the first time: IDF deploys artillery units inside Lebanon

Artillery operations during recent conflicts in both Gaza and Lebanon have been conducted exclusively from within Israeli territory, so this marks a significant shift in how the IDF is handling its ground invasion.

The IDF has positioned artillery batteries inside southern Lebanon, marking the first such deployment since the security zone era. The move represents a substantial change in operational tactics along the northern front.

The artillery unit from the "Keren" Battalion, Brigade 282, crossed into Lebanese territory last week and has reportedly begun operations against Hezbollah targets. This deployment aims to achieve three strategic objectives:

  1. Extend the range of ground fire deeper into Lebanese territory
  2. Enhance capabilities to counter rocket launches
  3. Increase firepower effectiveness against militant targets

The development comes amid ongoing tensions along the northern border and follows recent rocket attacks on the Haifa metropolitan area, where impacts were reported earlier today.
