NBS News reports that Special Counsel Jack Smith, who was investigating former President Donald Trump for interference in the 2020 election and for mishandling of classified documents, will be resigning with his team, due to the Justice Department's longstanding policy of not prosecuting the President.
Smith's criminal investigations into Trump were disrupted by a Supreme Court decision which granted the President broad immunity in dealing with "official acts," making it more difficult to zero in on non-official acts Trump may have committed when fighting the results of the 2020 election, which he lost.
Smith's case against Trump for mishandling classified documents - Trump famously had stacks of documents throughout Mar-a-Lago including in his bathroom - were also undermined publicly by the revelation that current President Biden had also possessed classified documents in his garage when he was Vice President.
