Joining leaders around the world, Palestinian Authority President Abu Mazen congratulated former President Trump's victory in the 2024 election today (Wednesday), according to Kann reporter Roi Kais.

Abu Mazen said that he hoped to work with the new President to bring peace and security to the region.

Hamas, meanwhile, released an official statement which was far more equivocal, saying that "our position towards the new administration will be determined according to its actual behavior towards the Palestinian people and its rights."

They then said that "unfortunately, since 1948, the American government has always been biased towards the occupation in all fields. We demand the new American government cease the blind following of the occupation."

They then addressed Trump directly: "The elected American President must listen to the voices among the American public in the last year regarding the ending of the war in Gaza," in clear reference to the wave of sometimes violent protests which broke out on college campuses after October 7.
