A senior Israel Air Force (IAF) general has been placed under heightened security after reports of an Iranian assassination plot, according to international media sources.
Iran International, a UK-based opposition site, identified the target as Brigadier General Yotam Sigler, commander of the strategic Nevatim Air Force Base.
“The commander is highly valued by Iran as a target, not only because of his role but due to Nevatim’s strategic importance—housing intelligence units, multi-disciplinary capabilities, and advanced fighters,” an Israeli source told Iran International.
The plot reportedly involved a cell of Azeri-Israelis allegedly working for Iran, with an established history of gathering intelligence on Israeli facilities and offiicials.
Last month, an alleged “Azerbaijani spy ring” operating under Iranian influence was revealed. The case involved seven Israeli citizens, including a father and son, who are suspected of maintaining contact with Iranian agents for two years.
They allegedly gathered intelligence on Israeli military bases and tracked senior Israeli officials and their families as part of a planned assassination plot. Some of the suspects were caught surveilling a senior Israeli official and his son, who were reportedly targeted for an Iranian missile strike.
