A heated debate erupted in the Knesset today over a proposed law to provide rehabilitation support for IDF widows and orphans.
MK Merav Ben-Ari announced she would oppose the bill, declaring, "We will vote against any law proposed by Otzma Yehudit - even if it's just a 1,000-shekel grant."
She justified her position by saying, "Any law from the 68-member coalition will pass anyway. That's life."
Her remarks prompted an immediate response from an IDF widow present at the discussion: "You're talking about my life - you don't see us."
Anna, widow of fallen IDF soldier Barak Chaim Ben Walid, spoke passionately about the importance of the law: "When Barak sacrificed his life, he ultimately sacrificed mine too. My life isn't the same anymore. We were a very normal couple, we worked, saved money, and had big dreams."
