A resident of Northern Israel went kayaking in the Sea of Galilee– and disappeared.

Israeli Police are expanding their search for a person who went kayaking in the Sea of Galilee and has since disappeared.

The initial report came in on Shabbat (Saturday) about a resident from Northern Israel, who went missing after kayaking on the lake.

The current search operation includes:

- Northern District Marine Police Unit
- Police Diving and Rescue Unit
- Fire and Rescue's LAHAVA Unit
- Kinneret Cities Association inspectors
- Additional support forces

Northern District Commander Meir Eliyahu visited the command post yesterday, met with family members, and received updates on search efforts.

These are the Israel Police's safety guidelines when swimming/ sailing / fishing in the Sea of Galilee:

- Always sail or swim with partners

- Carry emergency communication devices (or a phone with a waterproof cover)

- Inform someone on shore who can report emergencies

- Wear life jackets on all watercraft

- Report life-threatening situations immediately to emergency number 100
