Defense Ministry report: 12,000 soldiers injured in war, majority reservists

The report highlights high mental impact; 43% suffering psychological trauma, 7% of injured are women

Since the beginning of the current war - Iron Swords - the Ministry of Defense's Rehabilitation Department has taken in about 12,000 wounded IDF and security forces. This is according to data published Tuesday by the division.

Most of the injured (51%) are young people aged 18 to 30, about 8,500 of whom (66%) are dealing with physical injuries. 5,200 (43%) developed mental responses.

14% of the injured are defined as moderate-severe, 23 with severe head injuries, 60 amputees who had a prosthesis fitted, of whom 5 required adjustment abroad, and 12 who lost their vision.

About 900 new wounded have been evacuated to hospitals since the beginning of the ground operation in Lebanon, a 1.5-fold increase compared to September. 140 of them were absorbed into the rehabilitation wing and the rest were treated and returned to fight.

Sixty-six percent of the wounded are reservists, 16 percent are regular servants, 11 percent are police personnel, and 7 percent are permanent military personnel.

In terms of age: 51% of those injured are under the age of 30. About 30% are between the ages of 30 and 40 and 19% of those injured are over the age of 40.

Of the 8,500 people with physical injuries: 48% suffer from injuries to the limbs, 29% from injuries to the ears, eyes and burns, 12% from internal injuries, 9% from the spine, and 2% from head injuries.

7% of those injured are women. According to Limor Luria, head of the rehabilitation division, in the past as well, the number of wounded women amounted to about 7% of all wounded, but now the nature of the injuries is different and these are mainly injuries that characterize combat with an increase in the number of female fighters.
