The Office of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced today (Monday) that it has met the deadline of the International Court of Justice for filing evidence that Israel is committing a "genocide" in Gaza.
The statement said that the file submitted contains "over 750 pages of text, supported by exhibits and annexes of over 4,000 pages" describing "promoting the destruction of Palestinians living in Gaza, physically killing them with an assortment of destructive weapons, depriving them access to humanitarian assistance...and using starvation as a weapon of war."
In a sign of South Africa's general approach towards the Israel-Palestinian conflict, the country said that the Palestinian struggle against "settler colonialism" has taken place since 1948 - meaning since the establishment of the State of Israel.
Israel has condemned the case from the start as politicized and full of falsehoods, and it now has until mid-2025 to respond to the evidence file.
