Hamas sources told the Saudi channel Al-Sharq on Monday that the terrorist organization would not appoint a new leader to replace Yahya Sinwar, who was assassinated until internal elections are held. According to the report, these elections are not scheduled to take place until March, if conditions permit.
In addition, a knowledgeable source told the Saudi TV channel that Hamas would maintain a five-member committee established in mid-August after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
This committee includes the Crisis Management Unit and the War Management Council. This Council will have the responsibility to make strategic decisions.
According to the report, the committee is composed of the following five senior Hamas figures: Khalil al-Haya, who became head of the political bureau in the Gaza Strip; Zaher Jabarin, head of Hamas in the West Bank; Khaled Mashaal - head of the diaspora abroad; and Shura Council head Muhammad Darwish, who is now responsible for coordination between the regions; The report noted that the fifth member was Rawhi Mushtaha, a close associate of Sinwar, who was assassinated by the IDF.
However, according to the IDF and Shin Bet, Mushtaha was assassinated earlier in the summer. Hamas sources denied to al-Sharq that Mushtaha had been killed and claimed that he was still a member of the committee.
