A policeman was killed and four people were wounded when a terrorist opened fire along the Route 4 highway north of the coastal city of Ashdod Tuesday, as reported by Times of Israel.
The terrorist arrived on foot. According to Kann News, he then approached the police car stationed at the side of the road after the officer (who was later identified as Adir Kadosh) saw him walking and called him over for a security check.
He fired at Kadosh, critically injuring him and injured an additional four people before he was shot by a MDA ambulance service volunteer. The volunteer explained, “I was driving and I saw a person with a gun standing on the road. At first I thought it was a policeman, and then he fired a few shots at me. I ducked, and immediately after that I jumped out of my car, drew my gun, and shot him.”
Kadosh succumbed to his wounds and passed away while in transit to Assuta hospital in Ashdod.
The late Adir (33) leaves behind his parents, 2 brothers and a partner whom he was supposed to marry next month. Adir enlisted in 2013 after military service in the Magav and in 2022 he served in the Military Police Department of the Traffic Division.
Traffic on the road was stopped immediately after the attack, but has since been reopened.
According to Kann News the terrorist may have crossed over illegally from the West Bank.
