The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported yesterday (Saturday) that the Syrian Army's 4th Division, led by Syrian leader Bashar Assad's brother Maher, is taking steps to protect itself from the Israel-Iran proxy war taking place in the country.

According to the report, these steps include avoiding any moves against Israeli or American forces in the area and refusing to host Hezbollah or Iran-affiliated units and soldiers in 4th Division bases. The Division also refuses to be involved in the transfer of weapons from Iran to Iranian proxies in Syria and Lebanon.

The Observatory also stated that "Israel has begun to open corridors in the occupied Syrian Golan and to detonate minefields along the ceasefire line several times, in parallel with the escalation of targeting and the arrival of elite forces of Iranian militias to southern Syria."
