Hostage Deal

Shalit negotiator claims Hamas gave the go ahead to a ceasefire deal

He said Hamas agreed to the terms, which could result in the war coming to an end and all of the hostages being released within the span of just three weeks.

Gershon Baskin, a leftist who played a central role in the negotiations for the Shalit deal, claimed this morning (Sunday) that Hamas gave him a proposal for a ceasefire in exchange for the release of all the hostages.

"Over a month has already has passed since Hamas conveyed their agreement to the three-week outline to me (the end of the war, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the release of all the abductees - all of them, the release of a specified number of Palestinian prisoners). In addition to that, they added that Hamas agrees to the transfer of power in the Gaza strip to a civilian, technocratic government who will manage the strip - including security issues and crossings," Baskin claimed.

He also wrote on his Twitter account that "Hamas will not publish its agreement to the outline until there is a sign from Israel that it agrees to this outline. Hamas explained that if they present the outline first, it weakens their position in negotiations. Bibi - Prime Minister - do you want to bring the hostages home? Do you want Hamas not to rule Gaza after the war?

You will get what you want if you pass Israel's consent (quietly) to Qatar and Egypt and also to President Biden. Just tell them that Israel is ready to enter into negotiations on the implementation of the three-week plan. It's on you Bibi. There is no victory without returning the kidnapped, and every day you delay you put the kidnapped at risk."

Former member of the Knesset Abir Kara responded to him "There is a negotiating team. Why do you think this proposal did not reach them (and instead came through you)?"

According to the Andalou Agency, Baskin said "the stalemate in truce talks has allowed the war to continue for too long.

“It has allowed for too many Israeli hostages to be killed, too many Palestinians to be killed, too much suffering to continue happening while there is a complete and total lack of a strategic vision by anyone involved for the day after. Biden needs to put an end to this war. Biden fueled this war for too long, providing Israel with bombs and a free hand to do what it wants. We all know that the US could have put an end to this war within a week if it wanted to.”"
