Kamala Harris: "I will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons"

She also promised to support Israel in the continued threat that Iran faces and said that she has fought antisemitism, but that  anti-Israel campus protests constitute 'free speech'.

As reported by Fox News, during a call with Jewish Voters for Harris-Walz just before the Jewish fast Yom Kippur, Vice President Kamala Harris addressed her Jewish constituents: "The high holidays come at a particularly difficult time, especially following the one-year mark since the brutal Hamas terrorist attack on October 7. This has rekindled deep fears among Jews worldwide, highlighting the importance of a secure, democratic homeland for the Jewish people. My commitment to Israel's security is unwavering and lifelong, dating back to my childhood when I collected donations for the Jewish National Fund. I will work tirelessly to ensure the safety of Jewish people globally. We're pursuing a ceasefire and hostage deal, fighting daily for the release of all hostages, including seven American citizens."

It's worth noting that even while she discussed Israel's right to self-defense, she said that, "Regarding the Gaza conflict, we've witnessed immense suffering, and it's time to end Gaza's suffering, and support Palestinian rights."

Here's what she said about Iran:

"Iran poses a significant threat, supporting groups like Hezbollah and the Houthis. Unlike the previous administration, we've taken decisive action against Iranian proxies and defended Israel directly. I will never allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, preferring diplomacy but keeping all options open."

How close is Iran to having ready-to-go nuclear weapons?

According to an article published by Iranwatch (who tracks nuclear weapons) in September, "Iran’s nuclear program has reached the point at which, within about one week, Iran might be able to enrich enough uranium for five fission weapons. For that uranium to pose a nuclear weapon threat, however, it would have to be processed further, and the other components of a successful weapon would have to be ready to receive the processed uranium. Weaponization activities could take anywhere from several months to a year or more, although the timeframe is uncertain."

In addition to the Russia-Ukraine war and the rising instability in the Middle East, the upcoming US president will have this additional worry to deal with too as s/he embarks on their presidency in a volatile world.
