Israel's security cabinet is expected to meet tonight (Thursday) to vote on how Israel will respond to the ballistic missile attack from Tehran, after Netanyahu and Biden spoke last night.
Motti Castel, Channel 14's political correspondent, explained that during their conversation, Biden demanded that Israel must not attack Iran's nuclear or oil facilities. Netanyahu then told him that this was "a historic opportunity that should not be missed", and refused to commit to acquiescing to his demands.
Why is Biden so opposed to Israel's retaliatory strike on Iran?
According to NBC, what stands behind Biden's demand not to harm the Iran's nukes and oil fields is the fear that such an attack could "bring the United States into the conflict" and even force it to involve American soldiers in the war - on the eve of the country's elections.
The Democrats also believe that an Israeli attack will cause a sharp increase in the price of oil and gas, which will allow the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, to place the cost of living at the center of his election campaign against Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
"This may encourage support for former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly criticized the Biden administration for its handling of the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East," said Richard Engel, NBC foreign news correspondent.
