The IDF Spokesperson's Office confirmed this morning (Thursday) that Sergeant Major (res.) Roni Genizat, 36 years old, from Givat Shmuel, a soldier in Battalion 5030 of the Alon Brigade (228), fell in battle in southern Lebanon.
He is survived by his wife Shoshana and three children. Since the outbreak of the war, 731 IDF soldiers have fallen in battle.
On July 10, Maj. Genizat published a post on his Facebook account summarizing the second round in the reserves, after 202 days of service. "It's good to be back home. I have to say a huge thank you to my wife who by herself keeps the house, looks over the children, and works. You're a superhero, you deserve a citation! Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity and strength to contribute to our country. We chose to immigrate to Israel, we will not let anyone harm the country. We will continue to fight until the elimination of our enemies. And many thanks to everyone who helped at home and in the field! (Food, equipment, help, support...) Together we will win! The people of Israel are alive!" he wrote.
Efraim, Genizat's friend, wrote: "Anyone who knew Roni knows how much he loved the country and how much he was willing to sacrifice everything for it. Roni symbolizes all the values for which we fight. He immigrated from France out of a strong love for the Land of Israel and a desire to be part of and write the history of the Jewish people here."
