Reporters Tal Schneider and Ariel Kahana were interviewed today (Friday) on Radio 103fm and addressed the escalation on the northern border and the rumors about Sinwar's death.
According to Maariv, Kahana opened by saying: "No one knows Sinwar's condition. If there was certainty, they would say so. There are many visible signs to think that he's not functioning, he's not in the game. There are also intelligence signs that confirm this. What Daniel Hagari said, that he can neither deny nor confirm, reflects the understanding in Israel."
"We need to add a very important aspect to this: Currently, the system is operating as if Sinwar exists. If there's no Sinwar, everything changes. If there's no Sinwar, there's no one to make a deal with, and you have no address, and then the whole question is with whom to negotiate and what are the methods to convince those holding the hostage– everything changes."
Regarding the ceasefire with Hezbollah, Schneider asked: "The moment Kirby says he coordinated this with the Prime Minister's Office, you bang your head [against the wall] and ask: What is going on and why are they dragging this out for so many hours? We, as the public, have [watched as Netanyahu] denies things he has agreed to ... so many times."
"You see very strong public opposition to a truce at this stage. This doesn't necessarily mean that the public supports a ground invasion. [So] - If this was the situation from the start, why [would] you give Ron Dermer the authority to say yes to this? Are you so disconnected that you don't understand that everyone will take this very badly? There were 18 hours without fire. People aren't idiots here, they see what's happening. I can't understand it."
Kahana responded: "No one claims that Netanyahu agreed to the American-French outline. What did happen? Apparently, there should have been an announcement from Israel that 'we welcome the efforts,' and it was only published last night and only in English. This is where the strong political opposition arose, pay attention to what Yair Golan is saying."
A few days ago, it was reported on Kan 11 that Israel is examining the possibility that the leader of the Hamas terrorist organization, Yahya Sinwar, was eliminated in IDF attacks in the Gaza Strip. The security establishment is divided on this conclusion, which is not currently supported by positive intelligence.
Journalist Doron Kadosh reported that as of this moment, there is no intelligence supporting the information that Sinwar was killed. The only reason this possibility is being examined is due to a relatively long period where he has not made contact or sent messages to Israel.
