Report: Netanyahu demands recognition of Israel as condition of truce

International media outlets report that truce negotiations are ongoing, and that Prime Minister Netanyahu is demanding either a buffer zone or recognition of Israel as a condition for a truce in the north.

According to international media reports, Prime Minister Netanyahu has not yet accepted the American proposal for a three-week ceasefire, as he demands far-reaching concessions for such a move.

According to reports, Netanyahu is demanding that an area of seven kilometers from the northern border be declared a buffer zone and a closed military zone enforced by the Lebanese Army.

If Lebanon cannot commit to such enforcement, Netanyahu insists on Lebanon signing an internationally binding agreement which includes a long-term commitment to quiet along the border and recognition of the State of Israel by the Lebanese government.
