In a potentially catastrophic incident, IDF soldiers in the Galilee Panhandle region narrowly avoided disaster after mishandling an armed drone that had crashed in a local settlement yesterday (Sunday).
According to sources, the soldiers discovered an unexploded drone that had fallen within the settlement area. Instead of following standard safety procedures, the group approached the device, took photographs with it, and even loaded it onto a pickup truck for transport to the local council.
What the soldiers failed to realize was that the drone was armed with an unexploded warhead.
An internal correspondence between security officers, obtained by N12, revealed the gravity of the situation. One officer wrote, "By a great miracle, it did not explode and cause casualties." The message stressed the urgent need for "a stern talk" and comprehensive briefings for all units to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The officer concluded with a stark warning: "It's not reasonable for soldiers to die because of stupidity and irresponsibility."
When approached for comment, an IDF spokesperson confirmed the incident: "Earlier today, an aerial target was identified that crossed from Lebanese territory and fell in one of the settlements in the Galilee Panhandle. [It] was evacuated contrary to operational procedure."
The spokesperson added that the incident has been investigated, and all soldiers involved have received a refresher on proper protocols. Fortunately, the event concluded without any casualties.
