IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi gave a statement tonight (Sunday), summarizing IDF accomplishments in the war against Hezbollah, the challenges Israel faces in a war on multiple fronts, and speaking directly to the affected civilian groups such as families of hostages and evacuees from the north.
Halevi placed an emphasis on the elimination not only of hundreds of Hezbollah terrorists but also much of the organization's chain of command, dealing Hezbollah a serious blow. Halevi also stressed that the IDF still possesses significant capabilities it has not yet used, and that if Hezbollah continues on its path - it will feel the brunt of those efforts.
The IDF Chief of Staff stressed that the army still considers the release of the hostages to be an urgent mission, while also agreeing that any postwar arrangement in the north must end with Hezbollah distant from the northern border.
He finished by saying that "We are fighting to realize all the goals of the war. The dismantling of Hamas in Gaza, the return of all the abductees is an urgent task, even when we are fighting in the north, we do not stop working to realize this important and urgent goal."
