A short time ago (Friday), the IDF launched an air strike against Ibrahim Aqil, a senior military leader of Hezbollah, in the Dahiyeh area of the Beirut Metro. A source close to Hezbollah says that Aqil is dead, though further confirmation has not been received.

Aqil was the second in command of Fuad Shukr, Hezbollah's military chief, who was himself killed in an IDF air strike at the end of July. He was also a "principal member" of the terrorist organization which orchestrated the Beirut Barracks bombings in 1983, which killed 241 US Marines during the First Lebanon War.

The IDF has stepped up its efforts against Hezbollah ever since the government voted to include the safe return of northern residents to their homes as one of Israel's war aims. Just last night, the IDF launched the heaviest bombardment of Hezbollah terror targets since the war began, destroying 30 rocket launchers and 150 rocket barrels.

This does not include the mass explosions of Hezbollah pagers and walkie talkies this week, which killed a few and wounded thousands of others, and which some attribute to Israeli intelligence services.
