Anyone shocked? Hamas condemns Hezbollah pager explosions

Russia also strongly condemned the "unprecedented attack on friendly Lebanon and its citizens." The UN meanwhile called the attack an "extremely concerning escalation."

In an entirely unsurprising development, Hamas strongly condemned the mass explosion of Hamas pagers, calling it "Zionist terrorist aggression."

In their statement, the terrorist organization said that "We ... strongly condemn the Zionist terrorist aggression that targeted Lebanese citizens by detonating communication devices in various areas of Lebanese territory," also damning the alleged failure to distinguish between fighters and civilians.

Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also condemned the "unprecedented attack on friendly Lebanon and its citizens, which constitutes a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a serious challenge to international law through the use of unconventional weapons."

The UN said the pager explosions were a "an extremely concerning escalation" and it called on "all concerned actors to refrain from any further action" which could trigger a wider war.

The United States has, at least officially, not pointed fingers at any particular responsible party for the pager explosions, stating that it was investigating the situation and calling for de-escalation of tensions.
