Police arrested 29 protesters following an illegal demonstration on Ayalon Highway on Sunday night, according to a summary released by the police early Monday morning.

The highway has since been reopened to traffic, following the overnight closure due to the protest.

The police report stated that the 29 protesters were arrested for allegedly "disturbing public order, attacking officers, and rioting with brutality" both on the Ayalon Highway and at the Azrieli Junction demonstration area.

Israeli police had initially approved a protest Sunday night at Kaplan Junction in Tel Aviv, which was organized in response to the retrieval of six hostage bodies earlier in the day. The junction remained closed to ensure a balance between the right to protest and the need for public safety.

However, protesters breached security perimeters, blocked the Ayalon Highway, and escalated the situation by lighting bonfires and firing fireworks at officers. The police officially declared the gathering illegal and took action to prevent further disturbances.
