Jerusalem is grappling with a serious issue as it readies for the new school year: new data reveals that 40% of the city’s educational institutions lack adequate protection against aerial attacks.
Research from the Knesset's Research and Information Center highlights that 40% of Jerusalem’s schools—251 out of 635—are either unprotected or poorly protected from potential attacks. Alarmingly, a significant portion of these unprotected schools—134 in total—are affiliated with the haredi community. This means that more than half of the city's unprotected schools are haredi institutions.
“This is an untenable situation,” said the principal of a haredi boys’ school in southern Jerusalem, who spoke to Israel National News - Arutz Sheva on condition of anonymity.
“We want to ensure the utmost safety for our children, but despite our persistent appeals, the authorities have not provided the necessary support. I feel utterly powerless.”
