A long list of European reporters' associations and groups including Reporters Without Borders sent a letter yesterday (Monday) to Josep Borrell Fontelles, the EU's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, asking him to end the region's trade agreements with Israel over alleged human rights violations.
In the letter, the associations provided a list of alleged human rights abuses by Israel including alleged targetting of journalists and censorship.
The letter ended by saying "We, therefore, write to you today to call for the suspension of the Israel / EU Association Agreement on the basis that it has violated international human rights and criminal law and for the adoption of targeted sanctions against IDF officials and others responsible. In addition, European leaders should unequivocally and publicly ask that Israel meet the following demands on press freedom," followed by a specific list of demands.
