A day after the failed suicide bombing attempt in Tel Aviv, Leonid Shpransky, who was injured and is hospitalized at Ichilov Hospital, describes the event: "I was driving home from work at 8:00 PM. On the way, I saw a truck, and suddenly it exploded— a big explosion," Leonid recounts. "I was sure it was a gas balloon; there was a lot of fire. I drove through the explosion, went a few more meters until I felt pain. Many parts were flying around."
He added, "The first aid I received on the scene was from a soldier who called an ambulance. I was taken to Ichilov Hospital, where I underwent surgeries, and now I am hospitalized." Earlier today, Tel Aviv District Commander Peretz Amar made a statement to the media from the scene.
During the statement, Amar addressed the increased alert in the Tel Aviv area: "We are flooding the city, especially in crowded places, with many police officers in case someone plans to carry out an attack." He also added that currently, there is no warning of another attack in Tel Aviv. "Anyone who wants to come to the city is welcome. We are a large police force with many resources, and we will provide what is needed." According to the district commander, the attacker likely noticed a synagogue and wanted to enter it. At that moment, the attacker decided to stop to arm the device but apparently pressed something else— activating the device.
"We are currently investigating the path taken by the attacker. We have no one to interrogate, so we are using various systems to determine the attacker's route. The person has no criminal or security record; he does not appear in our databases," said the district commander.
As mentioned, this morning, the police and Shin Bet confirmed that the truck explosion in Tel Aviv last night was a terrorist attack carried out using a powerful explosive device. Additionally, this morning, Hamas and Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack. The attacker, a resident of Judea and Samaria around 50 years old, was killed in the suicide bombing. Another person was injured moderately.
