Last week, Hezbollah released a video showing part of its extensive tunnel network. The footage shows trucks easily traversing the tunnel, which has been prepared for years in anticipation of a confrontation with Israel. While there is concern in Israel over the Hezbollah footage, former IDF Intelligence Chief Tamir Hayman reassures that Israel has the capabilities to handle the threat.
Hayman told Channel 12 News: "Hezbollah has conducted very professional and extensive work to preserve and protect its firepower capabilities, including long-range missiles and rockets." He added that Hezbollah is unaware of Israel's capabilities in dealing with the tunnel system: "They perceive it as very protected, but Israel has developed intelligence and capability in recent years for detecting underground structures, which is considered among the most advanced in the world tactically. But we’ll let them worry about that."
Hayman clarified that “there are 160 Shiite villages in southern Lebanon. It is likely that each Shiite village is prepared for combat, and therefore each such village has underground fighting positions designed to conceal fighters, anti-tank missiles, and explosives operators.”
