Philadelphi route, Hostage negotiations

Leaving the Philadelphi Route? Retired General’s Uncommon Statement

Retired Major General Dr. Yom Tov Samia, former head of the Southern Command, stated today in the context of the debate over whether to insist on the Philadelphi Route, "Tomorrow morning, I would leave any place that would bring the hostages home now."

In an interview on 103FM, Dr. Samia addressed the ongoing hostage deal and asserted that everything should be done to secure an agreement that brings the hostages back home. "You haven’t done anything serious regarding the Philadelphi Route for 19 years; now we are going to do it at the expense of the hostages? No. Tomorrow morning, I would leave any place that would bring the hostages home."

It’s worth noting that earlier this morning, we reported that despite the optimism expressed in Israel following the summit in Qatar, sources familiar with the negotiations indicate that the disputes between the parties remain deep, particularly on key issues like the Philadelphia and Nitzarim Routes, as well as the withdrawal of IDF forces from the Gaza Strip.
